A beginner's shopping list
- Paddle — a beginner-friendly composite or graphite paddle is all you need to start.
- Balls — outdoor balls have smaller, harder holes; indoor balls are softer with larger holes.
- Shoes — non-marking court shoes give you grip and protect your ankles.
- Extras — a hat, water bottle and a light towel are handy for outdoor play.
Tip: many clubs let beginners borrow a paddle for their first few sessions — try before you buy, and ask local players what they recommend.
